Tecno Leader

Web Redesign Project

Overview

Tecno Leader is an Italian company that specializes in smart home repairs. The goal of this project was to create a more enjoyable user experience for the Tecno Leader website. I achieved this by fixing usability issues, enhancing information architecture, and redesigning the user interface.

Role: Product Designer & UX Researcher

Team: Kaleidos Marketing Team

Duration: November 2020 – December 2020

Brief: Redesigning the website experience for an Italian company

Understanding the Problem

The original website had an overload of unnecessary information. It lacked direction and was extremely difficult to navigate.
Through my user interviews and competitive analysis, I was able to better understand:
  • The needs and goals of the user
  • The necessary and unnecessary information on the site
  • How to sell the service best to the user using hierarchy of information

Gathering Insights

Information Architecture Reorganization Process
  • Establish original sitemap
  •  Phase 1: Sitemap reorganization, gather feedback
  • Phase 2: Final sitemap

Site Mapping

After a series of user flows and cognitive walkthroughs, I condensed the original site map by cutting unnecessary information. I reorganized the data into a system that would work efficiently with fewer steps for the user to access necessary information.

Beginning Sketches

With an established navigation and user flow system I was then able to begin designing the user interface. The wireframes were created with Adobe XD.

Challenges

A significant challenge with the initial wireframes was the lack of content available for images and styling. I solved this issue in the final product by styling the space with graphics instead of photographs from the existing website.

Another challenge occurred with the product section. During the cognitive walkthroughs, I found that it would be more successful for the products to be organized in sections rather than grid style. In the final design, I created a sub-navigation bar for the product section and organized the products accordingly.

These changes were discovered through cognitive walkthroughs and implemented in the final design.

Home Page Redesign

I eliminated unnecessary information from the home page and styled it to be more accessible with relevant information through my design thinking process.

Goals:

  • Easily locate the phone number for Tecno Leader.
  • Instantly understand what the company provides “smart home repairs.”
  • Recognize that Tecno Leader offers a free quote for their work.
  • Create a deeper understanding of their services.
  • Easily find their service “pin-it.”
  • Navigate to the different service options with the use of buttons.

Results and Takeaways

The final design and organization of information was approved by the client and the process of implementing the design into WordPress is in the beginning stages.
Takeaways:
  • Proper organization of information architecture is essential to an enjoyable user experience
  • Site-mapping is a great technique to better understand information architecture
  • Cognitive walkthroughs are an essential during the design process to test the design flow
